Managing classes gave new ideas to forming a positive classroom and be prepared for the different types of classroom challenges. Being an English teacher for young children it is important to build a strong rapport. Eye contact, gestures and voice need to be properly used and when. Eye contact is important for the students to feel that the teacher is confident and also giving attention/respect to their students. Using students names is important for the student, and the teacher must learn every students name. There are pros and cons of whole-class grouping, students working on their own, pairwork, and groupwork. These should be used based on certain factors such as size of the class or they can all be implemented. Writing on the board needs the right amount of time in-front of the students. The suggestion I liked the best was to write on the board prior to students arriving and covering with a paper. Teacher talk time and student talk time are equally important. There needs to be a consistent balance. Giving instructions need to be clear and in words that the students understand. Maintaining discipline is vital to a positive atmosphere in the classroom. It is important to know how to handle each student and situation with respect and patience. Reaching out to other teachers is another great tool. My favorite line in this unit was \"focus on the behavior and not the student\".
