I now fully understand the difference between accuracy (reproducing correct language) and fluency (creativity with language). Both are important but have very different activities associated with them. While they work together in many senses, it is okay to sometimes have creative language that is not necessarily accurate, as that can be fixed and drilled at a later time. As for the guidelines for a creative speaking activity, this part was quite useful. It is good to not only prepare before the lesson with deciding the aims and the predicted problems, but it is also important to conduct, encourage, and monitor the activity effectively during the process. Additionally, the activity must be reviewed afterwards, and I am fond of the idea of recording the sessions for playback to note how well it went and to see if there are any recurring problems. As for the writing portion, I am not surprised that most teachers brush over writing as it is not seen as \"important.\" To be honest, I did not focus on writing at all when I taught English previously. But it is integral to English, and all parts of it are necessary to practice--even handwriting. As the unit states, failure to be accurate in these regards can make the person look uneducated and can affect their confidence. However, mastering these aspects and being able to write creatively can give the students a great sense of pride.
