Unit 9 focuses on skills and tips for lesson planning. Lesson plans help act as: an aid in planning, a working document to refer to during lessons, and a record of progress. There are no specific rules for writing lessons plans and the extent of planning may vary between teachers, however, inexperienced teachers would benefit from more formal/structured lessons plans when first beginning teaching. It is a good idea to stay organized before classes, making sure that you have your lessons plan and all of the necessary working materials/equipment easily accessible. It is also beneficial to greet students as they come into class to get them ready for the lesson. Unit 9 offers a list and template of things that should be included in a lesson plan. These include learner objectives, personal aims, anticipated problems, teaching aids, procedures, and etc. It also provides a sample lesson plan on teaching can and can?t. Including a personal aim in the lesson plans shows how teachers can use the lesson plan to improve their own teaching skills as well. Teachers can also benefit from monitoring their own lessons with self-evaluation forms to improve future lessons.
