Teach English in SAnxiAng Zhen - Zhongshan Shi
This last unit talks about some of the problems that may arise in a classroom and the possible solutions for it. For example, a 'new group' of students may not have the already-formed relationships and comfortability as those in an 'existing group'. In order to counteract that, I might carry out \"ice-breakers\" or similar activities that help establish the necessary rapport between the individual students and with me. Warmers are also a good way to start a day in the classroom, as it increases the inspiration and motivation to learn. Walking into a classroom and jumping right into the course book will not only lesson their interest in studying the language, but can also bore them, which we learned is detrimental to a student's learning experience. Another example is the use of the students' native language in an English-learning classroom. It is important to note here that the students usually don't have 'malicious' intentions when speaking their language; most of the time, they are having trouble expressing something in English or they're wanting to help another student understand the instructions a bit better. In such situations, I would encourage the use of English, remind them to use it whenever deemed necessary and make sure my explanations were loud and clear enough, to all class members, so that they don't feel the need to clarify to other students in their native tongue.
