Modal verbs are used to add meaning to the main verb, expressing obligation, possibility, permission, ability or advice. They do not change according to person and are followed by a base form of verb. Moreover, the use of this or that modal verb can change the level of formality and meaning of the main verb. To help students to improve the modal verbs it is very useful to engage them into role plays, creating rules and signs. There are three categories of relative clauses: 1) independent clause (complete sentence), 2) dependent clause (not a complete sentence, which must be connected to an independent clause), 3) relative clause (dependent clause that modifies a noun). The relative clauses can be defining (gives essential information to the meaning of the sentence) and non-defining (gives not essential information to the meaning of the sentence). There are three types of phrasal verbs: 1) intransitive - cannot be followed by a direct object; 2) transitive separable - an object pronoun can only come between the verb and the particle; 3) transitive inseparable - the object phrase or pronoun come after the particle.
