When teaching English as a second language, there are different methodologies that should be applied. It is the responsibility of the teacher to figure out the right methods to use and when to use them. Using a single method is however not encouraged because it limits what learners can learn during a lesson. It should be noted that learners at different levels have a different understanding of the language so the teacher should use a suitable teaching method bearing that in mind. Talking about teaching techniques, \"Engage Study and Activate\" (ESA) is the best teaching technique for new teachers. ESA always starts with the Engage stage which is considered as a warm up session. During this stage, the teacher gives the learners a chance to express their knowledge of the language through games, music, stories, mimes etc. After the Engage stage is the Study stage where students focus mainly on language construction. During this stage the teacher will give exercises to check the students' understanding of the language. The activate stage is always the last stage as the students get a chance to use all the language they know.
