This was a very enjoyable unit and the role play/demonstrations were very educational. It is so helpful to see a proficient teacher teach a negative and positive lesson. I personally learnt more watching the first video; as I was vigilant and carefully tracked his mistakes. The fact that he made his errors quite obvious was supportive. It was reassuring to have the opportunity to judge the lesson. Video 1 was very effective in drawing our compassion for the students- who have made the effort to attend their regular class and improve their English skills-but who are treated in a very casual and insulting manner. There was no real relationship (rapport) with the teacher in video 1. The teacher acted as if this was not important at all. It could be interpreted as someone who may not enjoy his job. In the second video, it was great to see the teacher happily elicit answers and involve the whole class. Students would view him as a fair, organised, knowledgeable, confident and respectful teacher and would be inclined or fully motivated to continue with their classes.The teacher of the second class showed a warmth and good use of a sense of humour which helps the time to flow and not drag on painfully as in the first class. He taught and practised the grammatical subject of modal auxiliary verbs very clearly with the students. The structure of the lesson was interesting and non predictable.
