This unit was about the Part of Speech and identified how each word in a sentence has a meaning that helps to make a sentence sound or read better. The unit went through the ten parts of speech; noun, verb, adjective, adverb, preposition, pronoun, infinitive, gerund, article and conjunction. It also then broke down some of those parts of speech into subsections such as comparative and superlative adjectives. I have learnt a lot from this unit about the structure of English that I have previously taken for granted since it is my native language. From learning the parts of speech in this unit I now have a better understanding of grammar and why certain sentence sound or read better based on these parts of speech. I particularly found learning about Comparative and Superlative Adjectives interesting as I now understand exactly why I change an adjective to an ER,IER or double the consonant and add ER. I also found learning about articles very helpful as I have always thought that deciding on when to use A and AN was based on the spelling of the following word and now I have learnt that it actually has to do with the sound of the word. I am looking forward to learning more about the Parts of Speech in the coming units as I think having a good understanding of English grammar is going to be incredibly useful when teaching students and helping them to better understand sentence structure.
