Teach English in Qiashui Zhen - Zhaoqing Shi
Unit 19 talks about what teachers must be aware of when they are teaching English to beginner students, individual students, children, business clients, as well as multilingual and monolingual classes. Although my goal is to teach young adult as well as adult students, the information that was presented in this unit can somehow relate to the levels of English language teaching. It is important to always begin the class firm and gradually relax. By starting off firm, the teacher demonstrates his or her authority and by relaxing, little by little the teacher shows that although he or she is strict, that person is still someone who wants his or her students to succeed. That person can also be someone who feels that he is respected by his students. Always keep the classes interesting and change the activities every now and then. If classes are taught with the same activities and if the tone of voice is very low, sooner or later, the students will be bored. Facial expressions always play a strong role. If a teacher smiles and makes jokes (keeping in mind what is appropriate for each level), the class time will not seem endless and uninteresting. Consider the students' English language levels and if they are able to complete their assigned tasks. Always pair weaker students with stronger students, and provide challenging tasks towards stronger students, so they do not feel bored with the material.
