This unit focuses on how to go about keeping control of your classroom in a respectful and effective manner. Classroom management is imperative if all students are to be immersed in an environment free from distraction and clutter. Firstly, the teacher must be ready to learn tthe student's names, establish effective eye contact, and make their voice sound powerful and clear. The teacher should do everything to make sure the students stay engaged by engaging every one of them instead of only the more confident or quiet ones. The arrangement of seating in the classroom can have an effect on how the teacher is perceived, with rows being conductive to the teacher having a visual on all of the students and maintaining effective eye contact throughout the class. Sitting in a circle allows for a more intimate classroom environment and can take the domineering effect away from the teacher. While sitting in groups makes for an easy way to check on groups and their work, it can diminish interaction between groups. Discipline is something that should be established earlier rather than later, as it helps to set a standard for organizing the class and maintaining that organization. the amount of discipline you will have to use as a teacher will likely depend much on how well you establish rapport with your class - the better the rapport, the less likely you will be to have to resort to discipline very often.
