Teach English in Longfu Zhen - Zhaoqing Shi
This unit dealt with the possible lesson plans for teaching new vocabulary, grammar, and language functions. It began by laying out the four necessities for students to learn any new language: exposure, understanding meaning, understanding construction, and practice leading to production of words and sentences. It broke the unit down into teaching vocabulary, language structure, grammar, and function, making note of things that make each more teachable and/or more challenging for students and listing techniques for teaching each of these language aspects. The possible ESA lesson plans it portrayed were insightful and helpful in that they showed how a simple activity such as learning house-related vocabulary or discussing a favorite film can open students to imaginatively using the new language both individually and as a group so that they help each other learn. One of the most informative aspects of this lesson was how it laid out at the beginning of each section the potential Engage, Study, and Activate lesson ideas that would be most useful to either vocabulary, structure, grammar, or function. Something I had not considered before this unit but will now bear in mind was brought up in the section on selecting which vocabulary words to teach and was the issue of \"frequency and coverage\". It presents an interesting challenge to select words that will be useful depending on setting for students.
