Teach English in Kengkou Zhen - Zhaoqing Shi
This unit covered different types of methodologies from grammar-translation where the learner tries to connect L1 with L2 through similarities to a silent method which in its own way is a method of DIY language learning with some aid. However, majority of the methods listed are used throughout a lesson, one can say that there is no one method that proves to be #1. This is because of how us, humans, get bored with doing one thing. It creates a stale environment. Alas the one lesson plan that is used is the Engage, Study, and Activate (ESA) is the most well known throughout TEFL training because of the flexibility it offers. It is a method that uses every aspect of how we learn a language more proficiently and effectively. On a side note: I found that this unit really spoke to me because it reminded me of my language learning classes and how most of the methods that were used in my classes were never effective to the fullest extent because of how it only incorporated one or two styles but never used a variety of styles. It was more on studying the material, repeating words and getting graded, but never actually understanding the language in real-life context. However, when I was learning grammar and spelling as a child to help my first language, English, these techniques in this unit were incorporated which made me wonder why foreign language courses can't adapt to how it is relevant to everyday use.
