I was aware there are various roles a teacher must take on, especially in TEFL, but I have never seen them laid out so clearly before. Each role is necessary to \"perfect\" (to the best of the teacher's ability), as they each aid in student learning in different ways. For example, as a Manager or Controller, it is necessary to show that the teacher is still the head of the class and needs to be listened to and respected. However, as a Participant, the teacher shows that they don't view themselves as superior, thus becoming more relatable to the students. It is also crucial that the teacher be an excellent Model because, as the unit states, the teacher is sometimes the only exposure to English many students will have. At the same time, the teacher must not just Model but also serve as a Prompter that allows students to push themselves to think and perform better and eventually become Models for others in the class. As for the Learners, I was well aware that there are different types of learners. The class I previously taught had students aging from 11 to 28 years of age--all in one class. All of the students I taught were there voluntarily, so they possessed the qualities of a \"good\" student. I am curious to see how I will deal with students who attend class out of complete obligation and may have a poor attitude towards learning English. I hope my teaching will motivate them to want to do better.
