The last unit of the BE course talks about the Business English world and the cultural issues we should be aware of when teaching in different regions. It gives advice on job search and professional development, pointing out a webliography to use as future reference. Wherever we work in the world we should always utilise guide books and travel websites in order to research the country/region we intend to work in. We also should adopt a conservative approach until we are familiar with the local culture and customs and we definitely shouldn't use sarcasm. We should, instead, respect the rules of the country that is hosting us. When searching for a job abroad we need to bear in mind that there are specific recruiting periods so it's better to look for a job when it's that time of the year. Knowing someone in that country is not compulsory but it's a plus. When writing our resume we would include our personal details, such as date of birth, nationality and address, our previous work history and also our professional and academic qualifications. During a job interview we should ask a few important questions such as the number of hours we are required to teach, the age of our potential students and the resources available for us to use. Finally I would report a sentence I read in this unit I totally agree with: all of us should see the importance of understanding the uniqueness of cultures around the world.
