Teach English in Duping Zhen - Zhaoqing Shi
The content of this unit covers the different theories, methods, and techniques of teaching English as a second language to ESL students. In particular, it gives example activities and ideas that can be used in effective lessons, and it also addresses what can be done to enhance students' growth and learning in an encouraging, non-intimidating setting. I gained a considerable amount of insight into what makes a lesson effective for ESL students. For example, while every lesson requires a portion in which students are taught a new language point (the \"Study\" phase in an ESA teaching approach) through pronunciation practice, exercise drills, and the sort, before that step, it is important to first get students warmed up for class with small activities that have them speak/communicate in English--because getting students warmed up will get them interested and involved in the lesson as well as get them started in thinking about the language for the lesson. Then, after they've learned the new language point, it's important for them to practice it in an activity that has them use it in practical ways, such as role-playing a real-life scenario or producing written material that mimics what is seen/used in real life. As a result, this kind of lesson gets students genuinely interested and invested in their learning, such that they can later use what they learn when they travel, interact with English speakers, etc.
