Teach English in Chengzhong Jiedao - Zhaoqing Shi
Again in this unit I have learned that one can never say I know everything about classroom management. An overview of this unit is that it's about the influence of eye, gesture and voice on classroom management. Group settings(whole class/individual/pair and group), classroom arrangement(orderly rows,horseshoe, individual and teacher position and movement)writing on the board,giving individual attention, TTT,giving instruction, rapport and every teachers's favorite, discipline. I have learned that I must try to avoid eye contact when my students are working in pairs or groups during activities which is NOT teacher centered.I can also say that I use all five the usages of gesture every day during my current teaching position;to convey meaning,reinforce instruction,enhance pace and reduce the need for verbal explanation.Also to use language below the level of students ability is the core of my teaching. I also should take care that even though I love to use pair work it can revert students to use their native language. Also to mix pairs and not stick to them like I use to do. Very good tip is to stop asking students if they understand but to let them explain what the activity is about. In establishing rapport I can let the students do more in knowing each others names and I can use their names in my material/ substituting names. I never knew what a jargon was , now I know it is a specialized language of a group !
