In this unit, I learned the different equipment that can be used in the classroom as well as the advantages and disadvantages for each. The unit provided a lengthy list of different teaching aids and provided insight into how each one can most effectively be used to create an engaging and informative classroom atmosphere while also using time wisely to cover the material thoroughly and understandably. The second half of this unit presented helpful lists of different course book and online resources, or electronic aids, providing a brief summary of each and how they can be helpful for students and teachers. Aside from the invaluable list of resources, the information about how to use different equipment to aid in teaching either grammar, vocabulary, or pronunciation was important and taught me that there are many ways to employ even the simplest visuals into class activity and study time in order to keep students focused. As a former student who is used to the newer IWB's, I learned how useful the overhead projector and transcript can still be for breaking down a language lesson into sections that students can work through individually, in groups, and with the entire class. Another thing I learned from this unit was that even equipment such as a smart phone is an incredible teaching aid for the possibilities it provides in terms of online resources, document storing, video recording, and using audio files or podcasts.
