This unit is on common problem situations that teachers can be faced with in their classrooms and how to properly deal with them. Thus it cuts across the previously studied units, as the solutions mentioned herein can be used to manage some if not all of the problems an ESL teacher will encounter in class as they go about their job. It equally points out activities that teachers can use on their first encounter with students in order to create a rapport. (that is, how to approach new or existing groups) It further explains how to handle large classes and reluctant students. In dealing with large classes, the teacher should use some techniques such as; worksheets, pair/group work, choral repetition, dynamics, as well as being audible and clear when giving instructions. In the case of reluctant students, the teacher should employ techniques such as; pair work, controlled practice, role-play and the use of tape recorders to enable the students build confidence in themselves in a less tensed environment before facing the class as a whole. It ends up with difficulties with listening texts, as this is a common problem with students of nearly every nationality. What I have learnt from this unit is that, the teacher should not focus only on either the stronger students or the weaker ones, but rather should device some activities to keep the stronger students busy in case they finish their work while the weaker students are sill working.
