Teach English in Suicheng Zhen - Zhanjiang Shi
In this unit I learned about the materials used in a classroom. The materials can be sourced both in written and electronic form. There are authentic and non-authentic materials. Authentic materials have been produced for a real purpose and not for the classroom, for example a magazine from a different country. Non-authentic materials have been produced either by an educational company or individual teachers for the specific purpose of being a teaching aid. For example, a reading/listening activity. There is a whole range of books catering for the teaching of young learners, but bear in mind that they will have been written for a market(typically western European) so therefore you may need to adapt suggested activities and worksheets. Course books consist of a set of materials, and of course they have advantages and disadvantages. The internet can also be used to find materials and information for your own planning and development purposes. There is no best method in classroom management but keep in mind that your teaching style should be flexible and adapt to the situation you are in. The following can be used to maintain order in the classroom: voice, gesture, grouping students, using their names, teacher position, giving attention, giving clear instructions, feedback. There are a few things to consider as of what not to do when trying to maintain control, not respecting students, having favourites, shouting, not being fair etc.
