Teach English in ShAwAn Jiedao - Zhanjiang Shi
In my own practice, I spend much of my time working with most of the equipment and teaching aids outlined in this unit. Technology and the use of media is an integral part of students learning at our school, therefore teachers must also be familiar with its usage. The use of OHP's have faded out and have been replaced by interactive whiteboards. I enjoy preparing slides beforehand and making use of 'transitions/animations' when adding highlights, circles or 'correct answers' to a presentation. Students enjoy being part of the presentation, especially when contributing their own ideas or taking part in a game. In my workplace, we are very fortunate to have 'tablets' which photograph and film students learning. I currently use the the video camera to record gymnastic moves/routines and presentations. The gymnastic videos are used for self-analysis and discussions with the students and the presentations/reports add a fun element to the curriculum. I can see the benefits of recording role-play, news reports etc in helping less-confident students in the ESA classroom. The use of YouTube videos is also fantastic in the classroom. I enjoyed the 'Back-Back' teaching idea mentioned in the course notes and used this as one of the ideas for my 'Mr Bean' sketch in TASK 2. Although I did not learn anything new in this unit, I appreciated the long list of online resources available for TEFL teachers and will be sure to use them in the future.
