Teach English in QuanzhuAng Jiedao - Zhanjiang Shi
There are five main conditionals using the ?If? clause. The Zero conditional is used for facts, things are are definite. This is the only conditional that can also use ?When?. The result of the conditional is a definite fact. ?If you touch fire, you will get burnt?. The First conditional that talks about a real situation in the future that is possible or certain, once the condition is met. ?If I save up all my pocket money, I will have enough money to buy a board game?. The second conditional refers to unreal, hypothetical situations. ?If I had wings, I could fly across the country?. The third conditional refers to past hypothetical situations. ?If I had been born a Princess, I would have lived in a castle.? The last conditional is a Mixed conditional, containing the Third and Second conditionals. It refers to present results of past imaginary situations. ?If I had married a Prince, I would be a Princess?. Reported Speech is a third party report on direct speech. Reported speech never uses quotation marks and the same tense is used as the time of the direct speech. Exception to the rule is time and events, and backshifting occurs eg ?today? becomes ?that day?, Yesterday? becomes ?the day before? and ?tomorrow? becomes ?the next day? as otherwise it would not make sense as at the time of reporting.
