Teach English in NansAn Zhen - Zhanjiang Shi
As one of the most neglected sections in teaching English, pronunciation teaching is integral to a complete English learning experience. Combining intonation, stress and the phonemic alphabet together with all other aspects of English learning will help to give students the desired all-round knowledge they seek when learning English. Although it is never strictly set out when to teach pronunciation, a teacher may practice it when required or as part of a set learning process designed by him/her. Good pronunciation is derived from language practice. Modelling the teachers mouth and vocal patterns as well as practicing with peers are effective at instilling the ability to make the correct English sounds and the use of visual aids can help to teach the correct internal movements of the mouth, teeth and tongue. Teaching intonation and stress can be done with a variety of activities including nonsense words, by gesturing toward the sound of tonal changes or by humming or singing through the various tones. Its important to remember that changes in stress and intonation on specific syllables can alter the meaning of the sentence. Knowing that these different meanings can alter the quality of a students communication highlights the importance of it. Teaching phonemic script to students may also be helpful in allowing them to ascertain for themselves the correct pronunciation of individual words and sentences as well as for clarification purposes.
