In the first video lesson the teacher is almost impossible to understand as he mumbles and even at one point speaks with his back to the class while he writes on the board. He is not friendly nor engaging. He skips the engage phase completely. He is a little condescending by saying \"its really easy!\" even when the students are clearly confused. He asks \"do you understand?\" instead of eliciting answers to ensure that they do and then doesn't even further explain his instructions when they do not understand. The atmosphere is very uncomfortable as the students stare at their worksheets unsure of what to do. The second lesson is a stark contrast to the first, immediately the difference is noticeable because the teacher smiles big to begin the lesson and smiles throughout which was very encouraging. In the second lesson he gave lots of examples to make sure they understood. He does all three parts of an ESA lesson and uses engaging activities such as gap fill and repetition drills. The students are a lot more involved, they are enjoying the lesson and more eager to participate. From this I could easily see the difference of effect on the students from the teachers demeanor and attitude and the difference of understanding for the students based on his instruction and use of examples, or lack there of in the first lesson. It was helpful to see first hand the different ways the same lesson can be taught and still be received very differently.
