Unit 19, Teaching special groups, gives an overview on how to teach English to beginners, individual students, children, business people, and mono- and multicultural classes. Tips for teaching beginners include methodology and techniques as well as possible problems and motivation. Practical suggestions and suitable 1-1 activities are provided for teachers giving English lessons to individual students. Teaching English to children is a rewarding and challenging activity at the same time. Unit 19 provides council on the teacher's role, the dynamics in the classroom, do's and don'ts for teaching children, and management of classroom discipline. A growing amount of English-teaching worldwide is to business people. This group of clients distinguishes itself from other groups in that it has a variety of very specific needs and wants. Thus, it is important to give them a needs analysis such as a written questionnaire (example provided in lesson 19) followed by a needs negotiation session in the day 1 lesson plan. Finally, this unit provides information on English-teaching to mono- and multilingual classes and suggestions on how to avoid the use of the mother tongue in the classroom. In essence, studying this unit helped me to understand that English-teaching to specialized groups is a rewarding and challenging activity. The success of teaching is largely dependent on the teacher's willingness to cater to the specific needs of these different groups.
