From this unit I have learned the importance of the role of a teacher and how easily the teacher can affect the motivation of their students. A teacher should be enthusiastic, interested and have knowledge in what they are teaching and care for all students equally. A teacher with these qualities would most likely motivate their students meaning a good teacher theoretically has good students. Another important role as a teacher is to be aware of the students culture for the students most likely are used to very different customs and ways of learning then you, the teacher were taught at school as a child. For example, in Asia students are used to the teacher standing in front during the whole class time. Therefore they are often serious but respectful and sometimes lacking creativity. I however, going to school in Canada, as well as respecting the teaching while they managed the class was also used to many group activities where we had to be creative. A teacher should also know their students English level and the age group they are teaching. It is important for the teacher to organize a class appropriate to both those factors. For there would be no point in excepting a five year old to know advance subjects or adult learners to be interested simple games. In conclusion, if a teacher is lively, shows and interest in what they are teaching, patient and has an interest in their students learning the students are more likely to be motivated to learn.
