In this Unit, (Unit 19: Teaching special groups), I've learned about the different groups or types of classes we teach. 1.)teaching beginners, there are the absolute beginners - these are the students who have no English at all. False beginner- students may have studied or been exposed to English previously but have not retained much language. The Adult beginner- will often have made their own decisions to learn English & as a result will usually be highly motivated. The Young beginner -often lack motivation as they havent usually made the choice to study and cannot see the benefit of learning the language. The begineer without Roman Alphabet - students will need a lot of initial work on basic literacy skills.And also a lot of writing and reading practice is a necessity. In this unit, I've learned also about 2.)Teaching Individual Students - in individual teaching the teacher have a number of advantages because there are no mixed levels. 3.) Teaching Children - can be one of the most rewarding of all student classes to teach because children possess an innate curiosity, which is in itself a motivating factor. 4.) Business English / English for Specific Purposes (ESP) - it involves an increasing amount of ESP. for example, teaching hotel staff the type of language that will be useful to them professionally, or teaching the language of law to lawyers. Teaching can take place in a number of ways: one-to-one, in-company group and In-school group.
