This unit covers teaching specialized groups. I learned that beginner students may fall into a number of different categories which may include the absolute beginner, the false beginner and the adult beginner, among others. Some tips for teaching beginners included different methodology and techniques (arrange your classroom, pace your lessons, etc. ) as well as possible problems one may encounter as a teacher in the EFL classroom. Suggestions for teaching individual students are also given in this unit. I learned that it is important to use a wide variety of activities when teaching an individual student so as to keep their interest. It may also be beneficial to exchange telephone numbers with a student which you are teaching as an individual and not with a group. There are many things to keep in mind when teaching young children. One thing that I found important in this lesson is that small children need constant stimulation and frequent repetition because they do get bored easily due to their short attention span. I also learned that it is important not to use a child's native language in the classroom. This may hinder the child's motivation for learning the English language. Smiling often and being prepared to become physical during activities are also important tips to remember for teaching young children. Because most children are so full of energy, it is crucial that a teacher knows how to discipline and manage a classroom effectively.
