Teach English in Gangmen Zhen - Zhanjiang Shi
Classroom management includes, how the teacher uses their voice, their eyes, and their gestures. It also includes how the students are grouped together, the specific arrangement of the class layout. These all have advantages and disadvantages. Working as a whole class and individuals both decrease student talk time, but one might give more stress to shier students. The class layout can depend on the physical space available, the material used, the age of the students and their personalities. Rows are more formal, but allow for movement and visibility. Individual desks can be difficult for student interaction, but easy for individualized attention. Horse shoe set ups can give a more informal feeling, but make it difficult for everyone to see. When writing on the board, you shouldn't be talking at the same time. Ask a student, or prepare in advance to help with this. Always speak at the level your students are learning at. This will reduce teacher talk time. Give instructions with common words that you use over again. Establish a rapport with the class by using pair-work often, personalizing the activities and allowing students to correct each other. Try to prevent behavior problems and the need for discipline. Be fair and give your students respect. Be prepared and fair to them. Never shout at your class and keep calm. Know the school's discipline code and act immediately, but try using humor and nonverbal cues. Focus on the behavior, not the student.
