Teach English in DongfAnghong Nongchang - Zhanjiang Shi
Over the content of Unit 1, Teachers and Learners, it gives me a good understanding of the qualities of a good teacher and a good learner and how to compromise both parties to have an effective teaching and learning environment. Factors like the learner?s age, learning experience, motivation, nervousness, language awareness, behaviour problems, life experience, culture and first language, their language level all plays a part in how well the student respond to the teacher. On the other hand, a good teacher should be kind and patient, love teaching, lively and entertaining, can motivate learners, has a good subject knowledge, can be able to involve all students, be able to correct students without offending them, knows a students? weaknesses and give individual attention when needed. Ultimately, I think we want the learner to have the willingness to listen to the language, a desire to experiment with the language, willing to ask questions, think of their own learning process and methodology, accept error correction, and a desire to learn. Apart from the personality of the teachers and learners, there are multiple roles that the teacher can use when facilitating the class. Each role aims to build towards good class management and they are managers, organizer, Assessor, prompter, participator, tutor, facilitator, model and observatory. And the roles the teacher employs would determine by the type of activity and what we wish the student to achieve.
