Teach English in Changqi Zhen - Zhanjiang Shi
Often teachers will not treat the receptive skill of writing as important as spoken language skills. However, it is more difficult to master, and shouldn?t just be relegated as homework. When two people are speaking we can assume their motives as wanting to communicate information or express themselves, and wanting to hear what is being communicated or expressed. So when introducing an activity, the teacher should also motivate these desires to communicate. Accuracy is concerned with producing correct language, fluency is more concerned with the fluency and effectiveness of communication. They are equally important. Controlled activities are accuracy based and consist of drilling and prompting. Guided are accuracy based with some creative activity. Activities such as model dialogues and guided role-play. Creative communication is fluency based, and consist of free role-play, discussions, information gap activities, debates, simulations, and communication games. Students should encourage students who lack confidence or feel intimidated to speak with pair-work, group-work, controlled and guided activities before fluency activities, purposeful speaking activities, changing classroom donations, careful planning, time to think about what they are going to say. Written language skills include handwriting, spelling, layout and punctuation, creative writing. Many of the same principles need to be applied to written activities as well as speaking activities.
