What I learnt from the unit 8 is about teaching the future tenses. There are seven most common future tenses: The future simple, future continuous, future perfect, future perfect continuous, be going tense, present simple and present continuous. As a teacher, I need to understand the use of these tense, and how to explaining in details to the students. First is the future simple tense that use for : future facts and certainties, promises, predictions (no present evidence), speculations, threats and spontaneuos decision. The form of the future tense is Subject +will/shall + (negative form + not)+ verbs. For example: I will run tomorrow; I will not run tomorrow; Shall I run tomorrow? For teaching ideas that I expect the students to produce are playing: fortune telling and/or predicting future changes in the next X years. Second is the future continuous tense, mostly are use for: the action will be in progress at a particular moment in the future.. The form of future continuous tense is Subject + will + be + verb + ing. (Note that ?be? is not the form of: is, are, am). For example use in the sentence; I will be coming to the party, She will probably not coming to the party (negative form), Will you be coming to the party? (question form). For teaching ideas while explain more in present continuous are: pairing students to arrange a meeting in the future. For example: ? what will you be doing this weekend or next week?? Third is the future perfect tense, generally used to say that something eill have been done, completed before the future. The form of future prefect tense is Subject + will + have + (not) + past participle. For example; Anthony will have completed the TEFL course by the winter, He will not finished the TEFL course by the summer (negative form), Will he finished the TEFL course by the end of the summer? (question form). For teaching ideas, I would like the student to write a dieries about what will you accomplish by the next year? Fourth is the future perfect continuous tense is to say how long something will have continued by a certain time. The form of future perfect continuous tense is Subject + will + have (not) + been + verb + ing. For example using in the sentence; by next year I will have been living in China for 5 years; She will have not been living in China (negative form); Will He have been living in China for 8 years? (question form). For teaching ideas, I would like the student to take a survey. Fifth is the going to future tense is use to prediction, plans (decision made before speaking) and intentions. The form of going to future tense is: Subject + verb ?to be? (is, are, am) + (not) going + verb. For example using in the sentence; I am going to play soccer; She is not going to play football (negative form); Are you going to play golf this weekend? (question form). For teaching ideas, I would like the student to making holiday plan with family or surprise birthday plans for another teacher. For both present simple tense and present continuous tense were already describe in the unit 4. In term of using these tenses, teacher should explaining to he student how to use in the sentence and how to form the good sentence. It will require a lot of practice by giving more examples and state the difference between each of the tense. Hopefully by the time of the semester end, students will recognize and use it in way of speaking and writing.
