We looked at two example classrooms, the first being a cringe worthy example of what not to do, and the second being exactly what to do. The first video taught me that repeating an advanced term that not even many native speakers may know, such as \"modal auxiliary verbs,\" to a room full of ESL students is probably not the best way to start a lesson. Continuing to prod them for feedback when they clearly aren't on the same page isn't the best next step either. The second version of the teacher was a perfect foil to the first, a perfect example of how to engage students with the material, accurately assess their level of understanding and then work with that.
