This section looked over modal auxiliary verbs, the passive voice, relative clauses and phrasal verbs. Modals express obligation, possibility, probability, permission, prohibition,ability and advice. The modal verbs are: can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, must, have to, have got to, need to, needn't, and ought to. With the passive voice the object of an active verb is changed to into the subject of the sentence. Relative clauses are groups of words containing a subject and a verb. And, phrasal verbs are multi-worded verbs that contain one or two particles. These grammatical usages are for the finer points in distinguishing thoughts in English.
