This unit introduced and explained the basic parts of speech: nouns, verbs, adjectives, articles, adverbs, gerunds, prepositions, conjunctions, and pronouns. It also described some common difficulties for second languages learners, such as the distinction between possessive pronouns and possessive adjectives. This unit helped me review my knowledge of parts of speech and equipped me to explain them to students. One of my Korean friends once asked me when to include an article and when to omit it, and I struggled to answer her. The concept of countable and uncountable nouns and the other rules under the section on articles helped me understand this distinction.
