This was a interesting lesson to learn about because it taught me about pronunciation and when to stress different syllables in words. I had always thought that the emphasis on different words in a sentence just came natural when speaking, but after reading the rules that go along with different stress I learned that it is calculated when to emphasize a word and what syllable if any need stress. I also found out about the phonetic alphabet, which seems helpful for non-native English speakers, but also looks like another language to me. I will need to help my students learn this alphabet so that it is easier for them to understand pronunciation of English words.
