Unit 3 Overview This twenty eight pages unit is a very good illustration of the most important techniques, theories and methods in learning English. Until reading this unit, I was not aware of many of them. Here I could learn about Grammar-Translation, Audio ?Lingualism, Presentation/Practice and Production, Task-Based Learning, Silent Way, Community Language Learning, Lexical Approach and Suggestopaedia learning methods. As I understand, each method is based on a particular vision of understanding the language or the learning process. The first part of the unit ends with a common question: Which methodology is best? In my opinion there is no one single best method. First of all, I think we have to choose the technique and activity that is appropriate for each particular task, context and learner. In addition, we have to keep in mind the culture and background of the students. But the most important is that we have to always remember about motivation and help learners become independent and inspired to learn more. The other part of the unit is about ?ESA - Engage, Study and Activate- Method? developed by Jeremy Harmer. I could understand that ESA technique gives the teacher lots of adjustability, flexibility, epecially if the teacher is a beginner. All the information coverd by this unit gave me lots of useful ideas and inspiration for my classes, and I?m certainly looking forward to learn more from next units.
