I have learnt about the different materials needed and their uses throughout a lesson or course. Visual aids include real objects, pictures/photographs and models. Worksheets are useful and can act as prompts and serve well to introduce and activity. The use of video and CD?s can be extremely useful it is important to know how long the tape is as well as setting things such as volume level before lessons and making sure everything is in place and works smoothly. video and tapes can be very motivational. The use of monolingual and bilingual dictionaries can provide information on spelling, pronunciation. They can also identify parts of speech. It is important not to overuse dictionaries in class. I also learnt that resource books will usually come in three parts (student book, workbook, and teachers resource book). It is important to try to make the best use of a course book by creating a balanced lesson. it is important not to use the course book all the time. It is also vital to avoid relying on the information presented in the course books. I've also learnt the difference between authentic material (newspapers, poems, brochures, songs, menu?s) vs created materials (crosswords, word search, flash cards, picture stories, games). A balance of both authentic and created materials is optimal.
