This unit I believe helps us future teachers to know how to prepare vocabulary, and grammar language lesson plans based on our student's needs, culture and background, and level of English. I like how this unit covered all the different factors that teachers need to consider when selecting vocabulary. I taught English in Moldova for two months with a few other interns, and I found it difficult to know and agree on what vocabulary to teach. I wish I had the list provided in this unit with me (appropriate for students, task, teachability, and frequency and coverage) because it explained precisely the factors we needed to address in order to come up with practical and beneficial vocabulary for our students. I also loved how this lesson gave us ideas on how best to use the straight arrow, boomerang, and patch teaching structures, and then challenged us to create our own lessons tailored to tasks such as checking into a hotel, or ordering food at a restaurant. My lesson plan for ordering food followed a straight arrow ESA structure, engaging the students by asking them what is their favorite foods. For study I would have the students identify words/vocabulary found in a menu by doing a word search paper, then study the grammatical structure: present simple, to know how to use the words to order food. For activate I would then have the students role play as waiter and customer ordering food from one another. This was a challenging unit, but very beneficial for lesson preparation.
