Unit 5 covers different teaching themes or strategies in teaching young learners. They are songs, chants and music, playing games, stories, arts and crafts, seasonal activities and drama and movement. I?ve learnt in this unit some techniques that can be applied to many contexts I have to teach to my students. Using songs and chants is a very effective memorization technique for younger learners. They provide opportunities for all skills and they can be used to work on pronunciation, stress, intonation and rhythm. Using stories in the class has many benefits. They are excellent for vocabulary building, are motivating, can be used with any level age group, and can developed all four skills with them. The use of art and craft is a technique that can increase learning by using activities which stimulates both sides of the brain simultaneously. The use of drama helps the students learning process by making the contexts of language realistic, taking into consideration the different levels or ages of students. Mime and lots of movement for younger learners while role plays and full acting for older learners. Teaching young learners involves different approach compared to teaching adults and this unit has helped me a lot. I?ve learnt how to make lesson plan for young learners using different techniques. The lesson plans in this unit are very helpful. It shows different ways how to put together a lesson plan which gives me additional useful information on lesson planning.
