I'm glad I learned what the different language levels are and what the language proficiency is in the different stages. This will help me to know what to expect from my students. Knowing that age is a big factor in the learning experience is good to know, it can explain behaviour of the students. Awareness of the several factors that are involved in the learning experience will eventually help me to adjust accordingly to the group of students I will be teaching. A very important thing I learned was about what a good teacher and a good student are. I already knew this on a subconscious level but I never realized why I actually liked some teachers and was motivated in some classes and not in others. Realizing this will help me transfer this knowledge about my own experience as a student to how I want to interact with my students. The main thing is to care about them and about them learning English. Students know when a teacher is sincere about this and my inner motivation will affect my teaching. Being a good teacher comes from the inside. As a teacher I should be able to have different roles in the classroom. Knowing that a teacher does all these different things will help me to actually make use of these different roles. Summarized: I feel that I already knew a lot of the things in this unit. But on a subconscious level. This unit really helped me raise awareness and made me realize I'm a big factor in how much my students will learn and how much they will enjoy studying.
