Methodology. I´ll begin by stating that this unit, by its description, does justice to its titling. I have gained a somewhat deeper comprehension of what I have been doing subconsciously through the years while helping family & friends learn the English language. Somehow, I have always naturally understood the principles behind CLT, CLL, PPP, Suggestopaedia, Task Based Learning, Grammar-translation & the lexical approach. Interesting thing is that my wife taught me much of the Turkish that I have learned through Audio-lingualism, the lexical approach & CLT. The rest has just been living life with a Turkish family. In reference to the statement about the disadvantages that English learners living in their native country have, I feel that since the advent of the smartphone, many people who wish to learn the English language have the opportunity to completely immerse themselves in it through music, movies and all other forms of media; all at their fingertips. So nowadays, unlike 20 years ago, if one is old enough and has access to said technological devices, all one needs is a good WiFi connection and the will to seek and learn. I know enough people on a personal level, who learned English mainly through music and following their favorite artist(s). (documentaries, interviews, songs with lyrics, etc.) In summary, the detailed explanation of each method and their varied applications was very insightful and helpful in aiding me to shape myself into the type of teacher I need to be.
