In conclusion, this unit concentrates on pronunciation of English language teaching. In classrooms, we need to deal with Intonation, Stress and Phonemic Symbols. Intonation is generally considered as the variation in volume & pitch in a whole sentence while stress is concerned with individual words. The normal pattern of intonation in statement is rise-fall intonation and the second common one is fall- rise intonation which indicates the speaker wants response and confirmation or the speaker hasn't finished talking. For Intonation teaching, we can use clear gestures and make marks on the board to emphasize the direction of sentences. In terms of Stress, one word has only one stress and only syllables can be stressed. Different words have different placements of stressing. In normal speech, there are more syllables without stress than with stress and only vital syllables in the words conveying the essential information are stressed. Phonemic symbols, from The Phonemic Alphabet (IPA), are really helpful for students to accurately pronounce words when students look up words in the dictionary. In teaching pronunciation of individual sounds, we can use some techniques, for example, introducing phonemes, peer dictation and using diagrams of the mouth showing how a particular sound is made, and so on. All in all, pronunciation teaching is on of the most important aspects in language teaching and we can take more interesting techniques to help students to be able to pronounce accurately.
