In unit twenty I learned about ways to deal with specific situations in a classroom. This went over the first class, warmers, how to deal with different skill levels, large classes, the use of native language, reluctant students, and issues with listening to texts. In the first class you normally have either a group of students with an already built in rapport from early classes, or a group of students who haven't built it yet. If it hasn't been built yet you need to focus on building rapport. Warmers are a way to open up the class. These can be activities like hangman. When there are different skill levels, you can do nothing, but this can possibly frustrate the students. The other options are to split the class into two groups with different materials, give the class the same materials but different tasks, or pair the stronger students with the weaker ones. In large classes the activities have to be catered to the size. This means there will likely be less individual attention. There are a couple options if the students are using their native language instead of english, make sure the activities are at the appropriate skill level and your explanations are clear. For reluctant students it is useful to put the student in situations where they don't have to present in front of the whole class and can try to understand it for themselves. If students are having problems listening to audio, it may be useful to try and pre-teach confusing vocabulary, and also replay the audio once more.
