Unit 2 introduces developmental theories that illustrate the different possible approaches to the process of learning and what factors are important. At the same time, the child developmental theory by Piaget outlines the differences in the different age groups present in the 'Young Learners' category. The unit then expands on this information by listing few generalizing qualities typical for 2 age groups, emphasizing on the differences between them. This information prompted me to consider the necessity of picking appropriate activities and materials and how important it is to stay aware and sensitive to the stage of development of every young learner in order to choose the most effective approach. Furthermore, I became aware of the different roles the teacher has in the classroom when Young Learners are concerned - these range from the typical role of the instructor to the more specific role of psychologist or counselor to the young learner. Finally, the brief discussion of different seating arrangement showed how even classroom arrangement might have an impact on learning and the effectiveness of certain activities.
