This unit gave an introduction in to the skill levels, motivations, and roles of both teachers and student so that, in my view, I can start understanding the dynamics of a classroom and what makes for a successful learning process for all involved. This unit highlighted characteristics of a good teacher and student: for example, being kind and patient is a characteristic of a good teacher and willingness to ask questions is a characteristic of a good student. Learning what the characteristics are for both teacher and student, helps me to understand the relationship between them. This unit also provided a comprehensive break down of the roles a teacher plays in the classroom and when interacting with students. I appreciated how each role was clearly defined, with examples usually provided, but that it was continually stressed how the roles work together and compliment each other. The unit also gave me a good foundation into the types of students I will encounter (e.g., age group, language skill level, and motivations), this will me in developing lesson plans and addressing the needs of the student s I will be teaching.
