Evaluation is the important part of learning, because students can see if and how they are succeeding and teachers can evaluate if students are following the course plan. Besides tutorials and self-evaluation, tests are the most common way of assessing the progress. There are four types of tests: placement tests that are given prior to the course to evaluate the students' language level, progress tests that are used periodically to evaluate the progress of students, diagnostic tests that are similar to placement tests though can be more extended, and practice tests that are given in order to prepare students for external exams. Each type of evaluation is important on a particular part of learning and a teacher should focus on each of them in order to successfully contribute to the students' studying progress.
