In this unit, I learned about how to use different types of materials in class, and how to plan and manage an English class for young learners. There are two types of materials: authentic and non-authentic. Even though teachers should always try to use as many authentic materials as possible, teachers need to take into consideration the age and level of the learners, and the purpose of the lesson. There are different kinds of books for teachers to choose from, but knowing how to omit, replace, supplement, and adapt the materials in the available books can help create a lesson better suited for the students. A lesson plan is very important because it creates an outline of the class so it will be easier for the teacher to have control of what is going on. Having said that, the teacher need to make adjustments to the lesson plan in accordance with the students' progress and response to the activities planned. Discipline in class can be carried out by voice, gesture, eye contact, groupings, use of names, classroom arrangement, teacher position, attention, monitoring/feedback, instructions, and getting to know the students.
