This unit actually helped me realize that I should take a progress test to see how my skills in learning another language have developed. I must admit that the teacher I've been using has not used tests so far to gauge my progress and after studying this unit I can see why testing would be an important component to utilize. That being said, I also agree with the thought in this unit that written tests are only one way of evaluating progress, equally important is seeing how a student functions in making real life conversation as this tests aptitude and not just memorization skills. I can say personally that I do better with written tests than I do with actually speaking, and so I recognize how a teacher would need to have several ways of perceiving progress and what areas need to be improved on. Finally, I appreciated the point that tests are not just a way of testing student progress but also of seeing what areas the teacher can improve on and which items they should review.
