This unit reviewed classroom management and organization, from the makeup of the room (e.g., rows, horseshoe/circle, and tables) to the division of the students, classroom rapport, gesture and eye contact, discipline, and student involvement. So far in this course, I am most familiar with the material contained in this unit. Because of my limited experience leading classes for elementary and early middle school students, I have learned some of the basics of managing a group of students. Further, some of this information, like classroom organization, I've learned from my experience as a student in high school and college. Still, it was helpful to have this information laid out explicitly and in an organized manner. There were things that I knew unconsciously or intuitively but that are helpful to think about consciously and carefully. For instance, while I've considered classroom organization before and some of the advantages and disadvantages therein, there were several aspects to each that I haven't considered before. Also, the advice on using gesture and repeated direction (repeat, turn to page, etc.) was helpful to hear.
