In this unit, we focused on how a teacher is to manage his or her classroom. We looked at how and in which situations to use eye contact, gestures, your voice and students' names. We then looked at different class groupings and their advantages and disadvantages. These groupings are: whole class, individuals, pairs and small groups. The unit also talked about how different classroom arrangements can effect the students' learning. It also briefly mentioned how to minimize having your back to the students when trying to write on a whiteboard or blackboard. This can be done by using overhead projectors, visuals, asking students to write for you or writing on the board ahead of time (etc). The unit also talked about how to minimize TTT and maximize STT. Minimizing TTT can be especially lessened by carefully choosing simple words, being consistent in presentation and instructions, using as many visuals as you can and by checking the understanding of your students. Lastly, the unit gave some great advice on how to build rapport among the students and teacher as well as how to go about classroom discipline if problems should arise.
